Hong Kong is a commercial based city, farming industry become shrink as time goes by. Using Tsoi Yuen Chuen (In English mean Vegetable village) in Shek Kong as example, it has been removed due to the construction of Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express railway, many villager forced to move out from the area and change their job.
Many farmland in Hong Kong are seized by the real estate companies for building luxurious flat, so the farming industries are shrinking. With the shrinking of farming, the ecosystem will be destroyed and many natural environment will be lost during the development process.
Vegetable in Hong Kong are mainly source from China, then follow by south east asian countries like Thailand , also western countries like USA, Australia, Europe. Local produce in Hong Kong are very few when compare to other countries.

There are still some people resolved in protection and development of the remaining farmland to restore a spark of hope for safe traditional farming and organic farming. Some well known farm included Kadoorie Farm, Ma Po Po community farm, Zen Organic Farm etc.
More elderly farmers are revealed with the aid of social media such as facebook. Mr Chow in Kam Pok Road farm is a notable example. He is a 82 years old man who manages the farm without hiring people to work in his farm. He planted 8000 Italian lettuce seedlings by himself without aid of machinery and subordinate. He mainly plant Italian lettuce in hotter days and iceberg lettuce in cooler days.
According to Mr Chan - owner of Chan Ping Kee vegetable seeds shop, Mr Chow bought lettuce seeds from him up to many years already. He mentioned Mr Chow is a professional farmer in Hong Kong with vast experience. He praised Mr Chow hardworking attitude and young generation should learn from him.

Although more cases like Mr Chow's farm is revealed, there are many farms and respective farmers in New territories still haven't revealed. Here is a small farm without registration of Organic Certification Seals in Kwan Tei North Tsuen - Fanling, the farmer grows many italian lettuce, Chinese kale, carrot and cassava etc. Those lettuce also reach mature size and they are ready for harvest.
